The Levin courthouse will close in November because it needs earthquake strengthening work. The Levin courthouse was last in the news in August when Wiremu Eparaima, Emmanuel Witana and Te Wera Hemara managed to slip police custody after their court appearances. It was initially earmarked for strengthening work, albeit with the ministry saying it was not a priority, before an announcement in 2012 it would close permanently.
