The move to alert level 3 will make little difference to accommodation providers according to the Hospitality Association South Canterbury accommodation sector chairman. Mark Offen, who also owns Avenue Motor Lodge in Timaru, said he believes there would be "very little benefit for accommodation providers going from level 4 to level 3". Offen said guidelines around travel would dictate what the accommodation sector can take out of the transition to alert level 3. "It's just a matter of whether the accommodation sector and other sectors as well can survive the restrictions." He said the weeks of continued lockdown would be tough on accommodation providers and they should remain united through an uncertain time.
