Letters on the Fall Economic Statement: We all pay in the end

If the government chooses to deficit finance for infrastructure, then additional tax dollars are needed to pay the interest on funds borrowed. Citizens wishing to donate to a particular candidate or party should be required to make their payment to Elections Canada or the provincial equivalent, with directions specifying the politician to whom the money should go. Periodically, Elections Canada would pay the money to the intended recipients who would never learn the identity of their benefactors. Elections Canada would also ensure that all donors respected the relevant contribution limits, which could be somewhat higher when they are anonymous. If a politician wishes to solicit his donors for more cash, he would pay Elections Canada to send the requests.
