Those applying for Social Security’s disability benefits, which workers earn with every paycheck along with Social Security’s other protections, have been hit particularly hard. This despite the fact that Social Security’s administrative spending, to repeat, is not paid from the general fund, which is in deficit, but Social Security’s accumulated reserve. It would stop Congress from arbitrarily limiting how much of Social Security’s surplus can be spent on administration. The Social Security Administration Fairness Act would take the Social Security Administration’s funding out of the hands of political actors.
