Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey returned to winning ways in Berlin, smashing the 5000m meeting record at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting on Sunday. Letesenbet, who finished second in 10,000m at the world athletics championships in Budapest, produced a stunning solo run, to win in 14:08.79 at the ISTAF Meeting in Berlin. Letesenbet now owns three of the four fastest times in 5000m even history behind Faith Kipyegon’s 14:05.20 world record from earlier this year. She is the current world record holder at 10,000m with 29:01.03 and also for the half marathon with her time of 62:52. Freweyni, who finished seventh in the world 5000m final in Budapest, was ahead as the pacemaker dropped out with 500m to go.
