For decades, Canada’s Criminal Code has had a publication ban provision to encourage victims to report sexual violence by protecting their identity. That means asking them if they want a publication ban, rather than lawyers and judges just assuming they do. Under the law, in effect since 1985, a publication ban is supposed to be mandatory upon request by a sexual assault complainant. Loading... Loading... Loading... Loading... Loading... Loading... All sexual assault complainants deserve to have an informed choice when it comes to a publication ban.
