A year after generating the first x-rays at the European XFEL, the third light source was switched on. At the year anniversary of the first light, all three light sources will be running in parallel, providing light for at least six instruments. European XFELThe European XFEL is an x-ray free electron laser located in Hamburg in Germany. Feidenhans says, ‘It was a tremendous achievement to get all three light sources to generate light within the space of one year’. The third light source will supply x-rays to the HED and MID instruments for user operation in 2019.
