Coronavirus is quite the party pooper. Official guidelines on how to conduct a socially-distanced wedding have been released: no flower girls and boys, no singing during the ceremony (so as not to transmit droplets), vows exchanged at a sanitary whisper, guests two metres apart, receptions “strongly advised” against and limited to two households. Oh, and hand cleansing before and after the rings are exchanged; because there’s nothing like the squeeze of an antibacterial gel bottle to mark that sacred moment. While these rather austere rules may be disappointing for the couples involved, there is in this enforced modesty something rather refreshing, because the whole wedding business has got out of hand.
