As a daily reader of the Star, I do not believe Bill 175 has received as much coverage as it should. Given the scathing report on long-term-care (LTC) facilities handed down by the Canadian military and the overwhelming majority of LTC COVID-19 deaths linked to private facilities, everyone should be concerned about these facilities. The real dividends from LTC should come from healthier lives and compassionate care for all of us in the twilight of our lives. Jurisdictional squabbles must be set aside, for I’m certain the majority of Canadians would favour a national, comprehensive public health-care system, including dental, prescription drugs and LTC. Indeed, if there is a lesson to be learned from this pandemic, it is that we cannot afford not to.
