THIS week I went to watch Hacksaw Ridge, which has just been released in Malaysia. It’s a movie I’ve been wanting to watch since it came out late last year and I’m pleased to say it doesn’t disappoint. A combat medic, he single-handedly saved 75 men in the battle for Hacksaw Ridge on Okinawa in 1945, tending the wounded under fire and evacuating them from behind enemy lines. As he grows up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, sweeping shots of the lovely landscape are interspersed with scenes of domestic violence. Hacksaw Ridge is a story of courage in battle but it’s also one of faith, integrity and the courage to live by one’s convictions.
