Backed at 1-100 after jumping the last in a seemingly unassailable lead, Footpad was grabbed close home by Simply Ned before a shocked Foxrock attendance on day two of the Leopardstown Festival. The mount of Ruby Walsh, sent off hot favourite in the day’s only grade one event — the Paddy’s Rewards Club “Sugar Paddy” Chase — had put his Naas fall behind him with a sublime round of jumping, and seemed certain to win after a fluent leap at the last, much to the delight of the large crowd. However, seemingly running out of gas on his first run post-injury, Footpad hit a wall and Simply Ned — a British raider who upset Footpad’s stablemate Min in a similar manner in the race 12 months…
