Three races, three gold medals and three Olympic records at these Paris Games for Leon Marchand, who demonstrated his superhuman ability once again by becoming the first man in history to complete the butterfly-breastroke double. Two gold medals in less than two hours. US media had already dubbed Marchand ‘The French Michael Phelps’ owing to the fact the Toulouse native is coached by Bob Bowman, the mastermind behind the legendary American’s career. Phelps accumulated 28 medals in five Olympics, but he never attempted a double whammy in a night session. This one-two was all in a day’s work for Marchand, who became the first swimmer to win two golds in one night at the Olympics since 1976.
