I always assumed as a little boy that the Gold Coast was a single colonial entity – apparently I was wrong. The Gold Coast nationalist Joe Appiah has noted how JB Danquah, supported by Kojo Thompson and Arku Korsah led the unification drive. JB Danquah disagreed and prepared a unification document that was signed by the Joint Provincial Council of the Gold Coast and African members of the Legislative Council. Thus Danquah led a “mission to Asante” with this unification in mind in 1943.
