Monday was the first time the legislators sponsoring the bill have met with the commission. The old agreement, that expired on Dec. 31, 2016, required that Gunstock pay $175,000 a year to the county. A former member of the Belknap County Delegation, Gallagher in the past has called for Gunstock to make substantially larger annual payments to the county. The County Delegation currently has no control over the commission’s budget, which is funded from the operations of the recreation area. The 1959 enabling legislation prohibits Gunstock from borrowing any money without approval by the county delegation.
