Legion accused of refusing to allow Afghan war veteran to lay wreath in honour of fallen comrades

The Royal Canadian Legion is being accused of being indifferent to fallen soldiers after one of its branches allegedly refused to allow a veteran to lay a wreath in honour of his nine comrades killed during the Afghan war. But those at the legion branch in the town of Hampton, NB where Keating purchased the wreath say only one side of the story is being told. Military veterans make up an estimated 30 per cent of the legion’s 330,000 members. “That’s true in some cases.”Allan McArthur, a veteran who was involved in the legion’s branch in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, said he was able to recruit an Afghan veteran. He read out one message in which a veteran complained that the legion was increasingly being run by civilians.
