Scotty Bowman isn’t about to make any bold statements when it comes to the Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens meeting in the playoffs. Back then, Montreal was the overwhelming favourite, Sittler’s Leafs barely a speed bump on the Canadiens’ journey to a fourth straight Stanley Cup. This time, Bowman acknowledges, the Leafs are the favourites because of Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. “Our series with the Flyers (in the mid-1970s) were all about brawn and who was tougher,” said Sittler.
