Legendary Roscommon barber hangs up his scissors today after 52 years in business

Today, Tuesday, will be a very emotional one for the much loved Roscommon personality, Paddy Joe Burke, as he marks his final day in business after 52 years of barbering. Paddy Joe started cutting hair at the age of 17, and moved to his famous barber shop in Church Street, Roscommon Town, in 1974. For five decades, the fanatical Roscommon GAA supporter has enjoyed interacting with many customers from all walks of life. It has been a privilege to meet and listen to some of the most wonderful people anyone could meet,” he said. Tomorrow, Wednesday, will be a big day of celebration of his time in business, including a special haircut for his very first customer, Fuerty native Martin Mulhern, who now lives in Westmeath.
