The National Anthem Bill was passed amid protests from opposition. The Legislative Council has passed the controversial National Anthem Bill today on a vote of 41-1 amid protests from pro-democracy lawmakers. Offenders convicted of disrespecting or misusing the national anthem are liable to fines of up to HK$50,000 or three years of imprisonment. The bill was moved into third reading debate this morning after all 21 amendments from the pro-democracy camp were rejected. Pro-democracy lawmakers left their seats and protested, and security guards surrounded the podium.
