Marco Asensio was denied an early opener for Real when his low shot was well saved by Leganes goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar, while the home side responded through Martin Braithwaite, who headed narrowly wide. Real were far from convincing and spent long spells pinned back in their own half during the opening 45 minutes. Cuellar rescued Leganes again when he turned away Marcelo's low effort and Benzema crashed an angled drive just wide in the closing stages as Real were made to settle for a point.
