A Supreme Court lawyer has served a legal notice to the government and the Election Commission seeking cancellation of the upcoming 21st presidential election within 24 hours. Advocate Eunus Ali Akond said he will file a writ petition with the High Court if the election schedule is not cancelled within 24 hours. The notice also said that Abdul Hamid was elected the country’s 20th president on April 24, 2013, whose tenure will be completed on April 24 this year. But Article 50 (1) of the Constitution says that the president will remain in power until his successor takes over.
