Legal heavyweights for court reopening


PHOTO: PETER MCINTOSHChief Justice Dame Sian Elias and other senior judges will preside over a special sitting in the Dunedin Courthouse to mark its official reopening next month. The official party will march from the Dunedin Town Hall to the Stuart St courthouse, accompanied by bagpipes. Normal court services will resume about a week later. Attorney-general David Parker, Chief District Court Judge Jan-Marie Doogue, Chief High Court Justice Geoffrey Venning, and Court of Appeal President Justice Stephen Kos will attend. The Otago Daily Times revealed Treasury's advice showed it favoured closing the courthouse and keeping services in the temporary High St court.
