Left-wing hardliner Derek Hatton has been readmitted to the Labour Party more than 30 years after he was expelled. Militant also planned an all-out strike by Liverpool workers to put pressure on the Government but the plan was defeated in a ballot. Kinnock told the party faithful that he would not tolerate the 'grotesque chaos of a Labour council - a Labour council - hiring taxis to scuttle round a city handing out redundancy notices to its own workers'. A Labour Party spokesman said: 'We don't comment on individual membership statuses.' Derek Hatton, who was deputy leader of Liverpool council when it was run by the hard-left Militant group.
