A Staff ReporterCalcutta: A six-hour general strike called by the Left across Bengal on Friday over the panchayat polls will be observed despite the court stay on the election process, Front chairman Biman Bose said on Thursday. "We welcome the high court judgment, which proves our claims of violence related to filing of nominations were not mere pieces of torn papers. However, the call for general strike will not be withdrawn as we demand peaceful, free and fair elections," Bose said. But in this case, we will extend our moral support to the strike called for peaceful, free and fair rural polls." "Those who have sold their conscience to the communal forces, a strike called by them would not get any response from common people," she said.
