An 18-year-old Australian overcame Katie Ledecky on the last lap of the 400m freestyle on Sunday, giving Ledecky her first loss in a major international meet at that distance. Titmus overcame the deficit and wound up winning by 1.21 seconds over Ledecky in 3:58.76 at the world championships in Gwangju, South Korea. Ledecky, 22, took the silver medal, with fellow American Leah Smith winning the bronze. She won the past six major international 400m freestyle races in the world championships, Olympics and Pan Pacific Championships going back to 2013. Ledecky is entered in four other events this week: the 200m, 800m and 1500m freestyle and the 4x200m freestyle relay.
