The court’s decision not to treat the matter of the lecturers’ strike as urgent by pushing the hearing of the case to May 15 was a big blunder. The idleness in the universities has led to untold delinquency: Crime, narcotics and illicit cohabiting among students are rampant. The strike is messing up all stakeholders — the lecturers’ union Uasu, the university management body IPUCC and even the government. I fail to understand what the government is waiting for to comprehend the harm the strike is causing citizens. Following the prolonged electioneering period last year and the lengthy lecturers’ strike, the academic calendar has been greatly interrupted.
