Bad Blood, John Carreyrou’s captivating account of the meteoric rise and precipitous fall of Silicon Valley blood testing company Theranos, unfolds like a well-crafted thriller. And third, how the Theranos debacle may impact our view of Silicon Valley disruption of healthcare. The company asserted its technology was further along than it was, and would demo prototypes as if they were the real version. Consider secrecy for example – you need look no further than Apple to find a high-profile example of this sort of behavior, as reported here and elsewhere. But what worries me at least as much is that we will learn the wrong lesson from Theranos, and emerge excessively chastened and overcautious.
