Edge computing is proving itself to be a durable conversation starter among a particular set. I have been a part of the technology industry for more than 25 years and been involved with data centers and technical real estate for more than 15 years. Data centers are changing to meet the evolving ways in which we use devices and consume information, content and services. A Brief RefresherBeginning in the mid-1990s and stretching into the 2000s, a growing number of companies began outsourcing their data center requirements to third-party providers. This “centralized” approach to locating data centers has been successful in supporting corporate applications, but the dynamics of information storage and processing needs continues to evolve, resulting in the emergence of edge computing delivered from edge data centers.
