One of several solid signs for the Maple Leafs in their win over Buffalo on Wednesday was the fact that Auston Matthews was a force, and arguably the best forward on the ice. He had 12 shot attempts in total, and Leafs coach Mike Babcock remarked that Matthews not only dominated the offensive zone, but also in the defensive end. Leaf Auston Matthews, battling the Sabres’ Evan Rodrigues for the puck, threw his weight around in Wednesday’s win in Buffalo. “I just thought he skated and he was real determined,” Babcock said after the Buffalo game. He has 35 goals and 68 points in 60 games, averaging 1.1 points per game (18th in the NHL), and 0.6 goals (fifth).
