Nikolaj Ehlers, right, celebrates with Jets teammate Patrik Laine, who scored the 5-4 winner in overtime in a game the Leafs led 4-0. And Leo Komarov, the Maple Leafs veteran and fellow Finn, said Laine stood out in another way. Both Laine and Matthews went out of their way before the game to downplay the notion of a budding personal rivalry between them. If a mano-a-mano hate-on ever develops between Matthews and Laine, Winnipeg’s 5-4 overtime win probably won’t be remembered as its starting point. For the Jets rookie, it was a one-night statement of primacy as the Maple Leafs salvaged a point in an otherwise feeble collapse.
