BERLIN—The future of Angela Merkel’s government was thrown into doubt on Sunday after the chairwoman of the German Chancellor’s junior coalition partner resigned following the party’s worst-ever election result a week ago. Andrea Nahles, leader of the Social Democrats, said in a statement published on the party’s website that she would resign, citing lack of support among the SPD’s parliamentary group and grassroot activists.
