Mark Purdon salutes the Glouchester Park crowd as Lazarus wins the Interdominion Pacing Final in Perth on Friday night. Photo: Ashlea BrennanLazarus asserted himself as Australasia’s best pacer with a brilliant win in Friday night’s A$1.1 Million Inter Dominion Grand Final at Gloucester Park in Perth. It was the second straight victory in the time-honoured feature for Mark Purdon, who co-trained (with Natalie Rasmussen) and drove Smolda to win last year’s race. Lazarus was a better-than-even money favourite and justified the weight of support with a dominant victory from the parked position. He was content to sit outside the leader, Tiger Tara, with Lennytheshark on his back and Chicago Bull trailing on the markers.
