Darvesh Singh Yadav, the newly-elected Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh president, was on Wednesday shot dead by a fellow lawyer in the premises of the Agra civil court, police said. Ms. Yadav, who had been elected just two days ago, was perhaps the first woman to hold the post in UP. ADG Agra zone Ajay Anand said Ms. Yadav was shot dead by her associate lawyer Manish Sharma during her welcome ceremony behind held at the chamber of the Bar Council. Mr. Anand said after shooting Ms. Yadav Mr. Sharma then shot himself and was in a “critical” condition. The reason why Mr. Sharma shot Ms. Yadav is not yet known, said police.
