A lawyer has unresolved questions about the legality of Government raids on unregistered raw milk providers. The series of co-ordinated raids involved Ministry for Primary Industries compliance teams shutting down sales of raw milk from unregistered farms in Manawatū, Horowhenua, Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Nelson and Southland. The ministry requires dairy farmers to register if they want to produce raw milk, and follow hygiene rules for bottling, storing and distributing the milk. The lawyer said he could find no evidence raw milk from any of the raided farms had caused an outbreak or illness.
