Michael Laws. Former National MP and Wanganui mayor Michael Laws has gained a seat on the Otago Regional Council, polling five votes ahead of his nearest rival. Mr Laws gained his seat with 7648 votes, ahead of Mr Kelliher on 7643. It will be the first term on the council for Mr Laws, who runs a public relations and advocacy business, based in Cromwell. Mr Laws said Mr Kelliher would have his ``moral and public support if he does go for a recount''.
