PECO had moved to bar MORE from taking over Iloilo City’s distribution assets after failing to get the congressional franchise to replace its old license that expired last January 18. Tambunting noted that the House and the Senate received evidence that PECO failed to performs its responsibility as Iloilo City’s distribution utility. This was confirmed by the ERC when it investigated a complaint of Treñas, who claimed that old electric poles have caught fire. The Bureau of Fire Protection said the cause of more than 2,000 fire incidents in Iloilo City since 2006 was the short circuit in the old electricity wires of PECO.
