Andrew Leaitherland, 49, who has run the firm since 2006, was handed shares worth £8.7 million. The flotation is the first for a big law practice since Slater & Gordon was listed in Australia in 2007. It is also the first initial public offering in Britain this year. Sir Nigel Knowles, 61, DWF’s chairman, received shares worth £3.3 million, while its 243 partners will share £232 million of shares, equivalent to 63.5 per cent of the business, with the bulk of those owned by its 69 equity partners.
