Law Chi-kwong denies rumors of canceling extensions on HK$2 concession fare

Welfare minister Law Chi-kwong (right) says the government would be going along with the HK$2 transport concession scheme as planned. Labour and welfare secretary Law Chi-kwong has denied rumors saying the HK$2 transport concession scheme for those aged 60 or above would be postponed or canceled, adding that his department is planning to implement the initiative by the next financial year. He stressed there weren't changes on the concession scheme which would cost an estimated HK$1.7 billion, but actual implementation timetable has been set out at the moment. Around 600,000 people aged between 60 to 64 would be eligible for the scheme, allowing them to ride public transport for just HK$2 by April 2021. Law added the government is considering the replacement of elder Octopus with personalized Octopus to prevent any abusive use of the concession scheme.
