Latin America's largest sail training ship docks in Puerto Rico

The Union, a Peruvian navy ship that at 115.75 meters (379.5 feet) in length is Latin America's largest sail training vessel, docked on Sunday at the Port of San Juan. It arrived in Puerto Rico as part of a journey in which the ship is being used to provide instruction to cadets and also serve as a sailing ambassador for the South American nation. Gianfranco Polar Figari stepped down from the vessel and greeted the assembled authorities as soon as the Union docked at the port. The Union is named after a Peruvian corvette that was used in the first stage of the 1879-1884 War of the Pacific between Peru and Chile. It will remain docked at the Port of San Juan until Thursday.
