Latif Siddiqui starts protest after ‘attack on election campaign’

Siddiqui is a former minister and leader of the ruling Awami League, whose activists he said attacked his convoy at Kalihati’s Gohaliabari Union on Sunday. “I’ll continue my demonstration until we have the environment needed for a fair election,” said Siddiqui. We reached Gohaliabari in Kalihati around noon and came under attack from supporters of the Awami League,” he said. He claimed the attackers were supporters of Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hazari, his rival candidate from the Awami League. Siddiqui was elected a member of the provincial council from the Awami League in the 1970 election.
