The last deep sea oil and gas exploration permit off the coast of the South Island has been surrendered. Chief executive Andrew Jeffries said it was the company’s last South Island permit. It is also the last remaining oil and gas exploration permit outside of the Taranaki Basin. “Over the years we have developed many relationships with the South Island community and iwi,” Jeffries said. “Burning dirty fuels like oil, gas and coal is causing a climate crisis.
