"Companies are LOSING the cyberwar," Ellison said during the second of his two keynote addresses at the Oracle OpenWorld customer conference last night in San Francisco. "But think about it: companies have to defend themselves against not only nation-states who are stealing their data [long pause as he gazes at the audience] but also VERY sophisticated cybercriminals who are stealing their data," Ellison said. "Equifax has been called before Congress to testify and explain what happened—this is very, very embarrassing; this is headline news," Ellison said. And the business world had better wake up and realize that these potentially crippling assaults are premeditated, deliberate, and coordinated.
