Several motorists had a bumpy start to their Thursday after a large pothole in St. James Town caused a number of flat tires, police say. The first call came in just before 7:15 a.m., regarding a pothole in the right westbound lane of Bloor St. E., west of Sherbourne St.City crews are fixing a large pothole at Bloor St. E. and Sherbourne St. ( Andrew Lahodynskyj / Toronto Star file photo )There were up to eight vehicles with flat tires, Toronto police Const. The recent warmer temperatures combined with the snow that fell the last few weeks likely led to the pothole. When melt-water penetrates the road surface and freezes as temperatures become cold again, it expands and loosens the asphalt.
