A half-day blockade was observed in Rangamati Monday in protest against Friday’s arson attacks on houses belonging to the indigenous community in Langadu upazila. Regional political party United People’s Democratic Front enforced the road and waterways blockade from 5am till noon, cutting off communication of Rangamati with other districts. Bangali settlers, blaming the indigenous people for the death of a for-hire Bangali motorcycle driver in Khagrachhari, set fire to houses and shops of the Adivasi people in Langadu, killing a 75-year-old woman in the arson attack.
