Lane opened after slip debris cleared

Debris from a landslip which closed a section of Lakeside Rd in Wanaka for more than a week was finally cleared yesterday afternoon, allowing the Queenstown Lakes District Council to open the section to one lane. After more than a week a section of Lakeside Rd in Wanaka blocked by a landslip from a nearby development site was finally cleared and partially reopened to traffic yesterday afternoon. Contractors cleared the mud and other debris from the site of the Marina Terrace Apartment development which had been blocking the road since last Thursday night. One lane of the road is now open to motorists with stop-go traffic management in place. Any investigation into the cause of the slip and any enforcement action would be secondary to ensuring the site was safe and allowing Lakeside Rd to reopen to two lanes, Mr Sygrove said.
