KUNDASANG: Several landslides were detected along the summit trail that leads to the Mount Kinabalu summit after the earthquake. Sabah Parks director Dr Jamili Nais said one of the landslides, at the 1.5km mark, was not passable and the 209 people evacuated from the mountain will be using an alternative route. “There is also another landslide near the Carson Falls but its passable,” he said of the area near the Timpohon Gates which is the starting point of the summit trail. Those evacuated includes climbers, guides, porters, park rangers, contractors, Mountain Search and Rescue (MOSAR) team members, staff of Sutera Sanctuary Lodges and Mountain Torq. Emergency evacuation was carried out immediately after the earthquake was felt in the Laban Rata area which is at an elevation of 3,272m.
