Andrew Landry recovered from a few late mistakes and held off a spirited charge by Mexico’s Abraham Ancer to win The American Express on Sunday in La Quinta, Calif.Three straight bogeys on the back nine wiped out Landry’s five-stroke lead, leaving him tied with Ancer as he approached the 17th tee, but he finished birdie-birdie to win by two. Landry shot 5-under 67 on the day, putting him at 26-under 262 for the tournament. “I’m proud of how I played,” Ancer said afterward. As Ancer charged, Landry suddenly hit trouble. Finishing one back of Ancer in third was Scottie Scheffler, who began the day tied with Landry at 21 under.
