A Brooklyn, N.Y., congregation is praying their church gets de-landmarked. The Ukranian Church in Exile wants a judge to overturn the city Landmarks Preservation Commission’s 2016 decision designating the white Neoclassical building a landmark, arguing the designation makes upkeep too expensive. Built in 1906, the Williamsburg Trust Company Bank at 177 South Fifth St. became a courthouse after the bank went belly up. But the building eventually fell into disrepair with a leaky roof, broken windows, destroyed plumbing and peeling paint. The small church bought the “banking temple” in 1961 and sunk $2.5 million into fixing it up.
