Land plot sagas persistA recent controversy over whether five plots of land owned by Deputy Education Minister Kanokwan Vilawan and her father encroach on Khao Yai National Park is just the tip of the iceberg. Land title deeds for three plots were issued in 1993, while the deeds to the remaining two were issued in 2002. She questioned how the land ownership documents were officially issued if her and her father's land plots encroached on the forest. The latest controversy is not the first case, and will unlikely be the last, involving irregularities in the issuance of land title deeds. There have been cases in which land title deeds were signed by "officials who had died many years ago" or where the dates of issuance of many land title deeds were backdated, he added.
