Pillars will be built either on the side of the existing road or in its middle in the shape of a T to prop up the elevated road, which will be like a flyover. If an elevated road is built over the existing two-lane NH34 stretch, the encroachers would not have to be removed. This is the first time an elevated road will be built on a national highway in Bengal. The 4km elevated road will be the fourth longest in the country after an 11.6km stretch on NH7 in Hyderabad, a 10km stretch on Hosur Road in Bangalore and a 4.4km stretch on NH2 in Faridabad. The cost of building 1km of an elevated corridor is nearly Rs 100 crore.
