Land issue dominates SA Human Rights Day commemorations

0By Colleta DewaJohannesburg - South Africa marked this years’ Human Rights Day amid calls for the government to address social and economic injustices across the nation. The Black First Land First (BFL) movement that advocates for the empowerment of the black majority say until the land issue is addressed, justice can never be attained. As we mark Human Rights Day, remember it is the right of every citizen to have decent accommodation. “The economic freedom of millions of South Africans will give effect to our hard-fought human and socio-economic rights. This year's human rights commemorations coincided with the centenary celebrations of former President Nelson Mandela, and were run under the theme "The year of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela", aimed at promoting and deepening a human rights culture across the country.
